"Restoring Trust. Reviving Elm City."

"Thank you for visiting this page to find out more about me. The successes of my life are deeply embedded in the people around me. I've always been in service in one way or another to others. Before I met my husband, I managed The Dunn Center Box Office at North Carolina Wesleyan University. After marrying, we had our first child and moved to Elm City in July of 2003 with our 18 month old daughter. We've lived in Elm City for the last 22 years and during that time we've brought two more beautiful children into the world. When we moved here, I had just recently left my career in management to stay home and care for my daughter, essentially cutting our income in half, but my husband and I had a vision for how we wanted to raise our children and build a family, and we both had faith and believed in it. So we started out in home ownership in Elm City making $13 an hour on one income. We purchased our home on West Nash Street, where we lived for 15 years, and when it was time to upgrade because we'd long out grown our first tiny house, we moved across the tracks to Branch street. Despite the issues the town faced over all those years, I have always loved Elm City very much. I have delighted in raising my three children here. Even still, I know what it is like to have to bathe my children in dirty water. I have seen the town grapple with issues over the years.

Transparency - Integrity - Efficiency

We've attended church at Elm City Methodist Church in town, and worked in various churches over the years. We've worked as the worship leader here at the Methodist church for a couple of years just recently.  I've served under various denominations, including Assemblies of God, Methodist, Church of God, Independent, and Baptist churches. I'm a licensed and ordained minister and have served in ministry for 25 years. I attended seminary at Nashville Theological Seminary in Nashville, NC, graduated the CAMS program with the Church of God, and am licensed and ordained through the National Association of Christian Ministers. My husband and I have raised funds every Christmas to help families in need for at least the last 15 years.

My daughters started school at Elm City Elementary (now known as Frederick Douglass Elementary) for their first few years before I decided to homeschool them. I've spent the last 22 years raising and homeschooling my children. I've taught every single subject of K-12 almost three times from learning to read and write, to Physics, Labs in Biology and Chemistry, and all the high school math courses from Algebra II, to Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I've learned and relearned more than I could tell you, but I've also learned well how to get someone else to understand it too. I didn't out source their courses, I taught them all. It's one thing to understand something, it's another thing entirely to be able to get someone else to understand it. My oldest two have both graduated high school. My oldest graduated college at North Carolina Wesleyan College Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire college career. She also went to school almost entirely on scholarships and grants that she earned with high grades through her homeschooling years. She now works as a Registered Behavioral Technician with autistic children. My middle child, recently graduated from high school with a 3.9 GPA, has decided to enter the work force directly. My youngest is starting 7th grade in August currently testing 2 years ahead of his grade level. You see, I mention them because their successes in education also became my successes when I took it upon myself to educate them entirely through school, and that was not always easy. Oh it really wasn't. It takes a great deal of personal discipline and self motivation to accomplish what I have over the years.

While doing this, I've also worked within church ministry as a worship leader, a youth minister, an adult discipleship program leader, an community outreach coordinator, and a speaker. Most of this I did as a volunteer, with the exception of being employed as a worship leader recently. I have no trouble working very hard without monetary gain. I am very good at research, planning, and getting results on-time, but I'm also good at bringing others along with me in the process. I know how to work with other people effectively, meet a deadline, and accomplish what I set out to do.

I ask for you to give me an opportunity to work with other town council members to help the city we've built our life in come back to life. Vote for me for Town Commissioner in Elm City and I'll work to tackle some of the big issues we all face living here.
